Abstract: The big-five personality profile is the combination of the high and low level big-five personality traits in individuals, which fully considers the interaction between personality traits and reflects the differences in quantity and quality of the big-five personality traits among different subgroups. The big-five personality profile is significant to explain the variable-centered contradictory conclusions, which meets the needs of organizational management practice and has a stronger guiding significance for practice. To date, more and more research has applied person-centered approach to examine the role of personality profile in personnel evaluation, human resource development and decision-making. However, the existing relevant reviews of the big-five personality were variables-centered, and there is a lack of systematically reviewing the core issues of the big-five personality, such as the theoretical basis for dividing individuals into different subgroups based on the big-five personality, the number of profiles composed of the big-five personality traits and the characteristic similarity of the profiles obtained from different studies, etc. Moreover, the research on the big-five personality profiles has just started in the organizational behavior and human resource management field, so it is uncertain that how many big-five personality profiles can effectively explain the predictive role of personality. The advantages of the big-five personality profiles research over the big-five personality traits research are reflected in: (1) The former considers personality as an integrated system, fully considering the interaction between the big-five personality traits. As an important supplement to the latter, it can expand the understanding of the relationship between personality traits and different outcomes. (2) The study of big-five personality profiles is convenient for variable combination, and the constructed profiles can be used as a variable, which is beneficial to explain the contradictory conclusions of past variable-centered research. (3) The research of big-five personality profiles, a typical application of person-centered approach, is more in line with the reality of sample heterogeneity. (4) The big-five personality profiles are more in line with reality of the individual's cognitive model and has a stronger guiding significance for practice. Based on the person-centered approach, a systematic review of relevant research on the big-five personality profiles in the field of organizational behavior and human resource management. We found: (1) The number of big-five personality profiles is affected by measurement tools, research situation, sample characteristics, research methods and so on. Based on the ego control - ego resiliency model, four profiles can be identified, which include commonly known Resilient profile, Ordinary profile and Rigid profile. (2) The big-five personality profiles act more as independent variables to explore whether there are differences in key outcomes and as moderators regarded as important resources for individuals to cope with identity transformation and work pressures. Four directions for future research were proposed: (1) Strengthen the theoretical foundation and explore the role of other theories in explaining the big-five personality profiles. (2) Strengthen repetitive research and identify the general big-five personality profiles, which is conducive to the comparison of subsequent research conclusions and also to provide guidance for practical managers. (3) Identify the antecedents of the big-five personality profiles to better understand why different research conclusions differ. (4) Include more personality traits to describe the personality profiles more thoroughly. Finally, in the field of organizational management and human resources management, future research can learn from the personality profiles in psychology to probe into the employee category with multiple personality traits to realize employee category management more comprehensively and accurately.

  • Personality Dynamics: The Integration of Process and Trait

Subjects: Psychology >> Personality Psychology submitted time 2022-12-25

    Abstract:

Personality psychology has emphasized the dynamic process of individual personality in situations since its inception. However, conventional personality research has largely focused on stable inter-individual differences and structural trait models. In recent years, with the rise of intensive longitudinal research methods and personality dynamics theories, researcher has shown a reinvigorated interest in the dynamic processes of personality systems within individuals, i.e., personality dynamics. Based on theories that focus on personality processes (e.g., whole trait theory, cognitive-affective personality system model, etc.), intensive longitudinal data and statistical methods that can model dynamic processes (e.g., dynamic structural equation modeling, network analysis, complex systems modeling, etc.), research on personality dynamics investigates personality processes with different emphases (e.g., the intraindividual interplay of cognitive, affective, motivational processes; person-situation interactions; dynamic features of personality). This article reviews early thinking, contemporary theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches in personality dynamics, and puts forward specific recommendations for future research.

Abstract: Personality affects the individual's work and life style, and has important guiding significance for the individual's psychological counseling and career development. Traditional methods use personality scales to evaluate personality scores, which include problems such as individual refusal to answer and blind answering. In recent years, with the development of machine learning, new ideas have been provided for personality recognition. This article uses participants' self-introduction videos and Big Five personality scale scores to obtain different prediction models for different personality dimensions through key point extraction, feature dimension reduction, modeling, and iterative tuning. This article uses participants' self-introduction videos and Big Five personality scale scores to obtain different prediction models for different personality dimensions through key point extraction, feature dimension reduction, modeling, and iterative tuning. The test results show that the personality prediction model based on the self-introduction video is close to or achieves medium correlation in all dimensions, and can provide non-intrusive automatic personality recognition,, which provides new ideas for personality measurement.

    Abstract:

People often make inferences about others’ personality based on their facial features. Among the facial features affecting face-personality perception, eye features are the most complex. In general, cues from eye region can be divided into two categories: changeable and invariant aspects. Changeable cues include gaze direction, eyelid-openness, and eye expression, etc.; invariant cues include eye size, sclera color, iris color and sclera size index, etc. From the perspective of underlying mechanism, the eye cues can be divided into three major categories, namely, cues affected by pathological factors, cues associated with specific groups, and cues regulated by subjective awareness or physiological factors. The future research needs to consider the effects of other eye characteristics, and to expand the perspectives of study.

  • Research on the Relationship between Well-being and Personality Traits in the Elderly Based on Canonical Correlation Analysis

Subjects: Medicine, Pharmacy >> Clinical Medicine submitted time 2023-09-22 Cooperative journals: 《中国全科医学》

Abstract: Background With the population ages, the mental health of the elderly has become a hot topic of concern for the whole society. Previous studies have shown that mental health problems in the elderly are closely related to well#2;being,while personality traits have a greater impact on subjective well-being. However, the internal relationship between the two in the elderly population is still unclear. Objective To explore the relationship between subjective well-being and personality traits of the elderly. Methods From July to August 2022,511 elderly people in Lincun,Tangxia Town,Dongguan City, Guangdong Province were selected as the subjects to conduct a site survey by using the questionnaire survey. The subjective well-being and personality traits of the elderly were evaluated by the Memorial University of Newfoundland Scale of Happiness (MUNSH)and the China Big Five Personality Scale(CBF-PI-15)respectively. Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between subjective well-being and personality traits of the elderly, canonical correlation analysis was used to construct a standardized canonical correlation model, canonical structure analysis, and canonical redundancy analysis, to explore the relationship between subjective well-being and the dimensions of personality traits of the elderly. Results The total score of MUNSH in the elderly was(39.72±7.74),and the scores of MUNSH in each dimension werepositive experience (9.48±3.24), positive emotion(8.61±2.24),negative experience(1.44±2.31),and negative emotion(0.93±1.80) from high to low. The scores of CBF-PI-15 in each dimension of the elderly were agreeableness(14.04±2.60),extroversion (11.77±4.05),conscientiousness(10.75±3.57),openness(7.20±3.90)and neuroticism(6.34±3.22). Pearson correlation analysis showed that subjective well-being was positively correlated with conscientiousness(r=0.334)and openness (r=0.219)(P<0.05)and negatively correlated with neuroticism(r=-0.223,P<0.05). Canonical correlation analysis showed that the correlation coefficients of the first and second pairs of canonical correlation variables were 0.476 and 0.331(P<0.001). The results of the standardized canonical correlation model construction showed that the correlation between the first canonical correlation coefficient of subjective well-being(U1)of the elderly and the first canonical correlation coefficient of personality traits(V1)mainly manifested negative correlation between positive experience and neuroticism, and positive correlation between positive experience and conscientiousness. The correlation between the standardized canonical correlation coefficient of the second canonical variable of subjective well-being(U2)and the standardized canonical correlation coefficient of the second canonical variable of personality traits(V2)of the elderly mainly manifested positive correlation of positive emotion and negative emotion with neuroticism. The results of canonical structure analysis showed that U1 was strongly correlated with positive emotion, negative emotion, positive experience, and negative experience, while U2 was strongly correlated with negative emotion and negative experience. V1 was strongly correlated with positive experience, conscientiousness, and openness. V2 was strongly correlated with neuroticism and openness. Canonical redundancy analysis showed that U1 explained 5.4% variation in personality traits and V1 explained 12.2% variation in subjective well-being,indicating that personality traits had a greater influence on subjective well#2;being than subjective well-being. Conclusion On the whole, the elderly hold a positive and optimistic attitude, with a high level of subjective well-being,which is closely related to neuroticism and conscientious personality. In the future, corresponding intervention strategies should be adopted according to different personality characteristics to improve subjective well-being, maintain the mental health of the elderly, and actively face the aging of population.

  • The relationships between different personality traits and postpartum depression:A meta-analysis

Subjects: Medicine, Pharmacy >> Clinical Medicine submitted time 2022-10-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国全科医学》

Abstract: Objective To explore the relationships of different personality traits to postpartum depression. Methods Databases including Web Of Science, PubMed, EBSCOhost, Embase, PsycInfo (Proquest), CNKI, VIP and Wanfang were searched for studies regarding the relationships between personality traits and postpartum depression from inception to June 4, 2021. After literatures quality evaluation, relevant data were extracted. Stata 16.0 was used to meta-analysis. Subgroup analysis and publication bias were performed on the relationship between neuroticism and postpartum depression. Sensitivity analysis of the relationships between different personality traits and PPD was conducted using random effect model and fixed effect model. Results 19 literatures were included in this meta analysis. Meta-analysis showed that the pooled OR values of the relationships of neuroticism, vulnerability, extraversion, openness, avoidant personality and dependent personality to postpartum depression were 1.30 (95%CI: 1.20,1.40), 1.39 (95%CI: 1.10,1.76), 0.86 (95%CI: 0.77,0.97), 0.94 (95%CI: 0.9,0.98), 6.27 (95%CI: 2.55,15.40) and 7.71 (95%CI: 1.62,31.14) respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that the different cut-off points of Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) and the different survey time of postpartum depression were the sources of heterogeneity. The pooled results were reliable except for obsessive-compulsive personality disorders. Conclusion Neuroticism and vulnerable personality were risk factors for postpartum depression. Openness and extraversion were protective factors for postpartum depression. Postpartum women with neuroticsm may have more severe postpartum depression and may be more likely to develop postpartum depression after 12 weeks postpartum. Due to the inconsistent results of domestic and foreign research, the correlations of avoidance, dependent and obsessive-compulsive personality with postpartum depression need to be further explored in the future.

  • 面孔-知觉中眼部线索及其效应

Subjects: Psychology >> Social Psychology submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《心理科学进展》

Abstract: People often make inferences about personality based on facial features. Among the facial features affecting face-personality perception, eye features are the most complex. According to the distributed human neural system for face perception, cues from eye region can be divided into two categories: changeable and invariant aspects. Changeable cues include gaze direction, eyelid-openness, eye expression and pupil size; invariant cues include eye size, sclera color, iris color, sclera size index, limbal ring, glasses and eye makeup. From the perspective of underlying mechanism, eye cues can be divided into three major categories, namely, cues affected by pathological factors, cues associated with specific groups, and cues regulated by subjective awareness or physiological factors. Cues affected by pathological factors are often studied from an evolutionary cognitive perspective, including eye size, sclera color, limbal ring, pupil size, eye makeup, eyelid-openness and glasses; cues associated with specific groups are those that indicate gender, age, race, ethnicity, nationality, social class, etc. Such cues are often studied in terms of stereotypes, including eye size, glasses and eye makeup; cues regulated by subjective awareness or physiological factors can be studied from the behavioral tendency conveyed by expressions and the emotional induction of expressions on perceivers, including eye expression, gaze direction and pupil size. For pupil size and gaze direction, it can be explained by the adaptive-gain theory and approach-avoidance motivational brain systems, respectively.Future research can be expanded from the following five aspects: (1) Starting from the behavioral cues of the eyes, to explore the accuracy of personality inference; (2) Explore the rules and functions of the different mechanisms of multi-cues in the eyes in integrating perception; (3) The similarities and differences of the effects exhibited by infectious eye cues and non-infectious eye cues remain to be revealed; (4) The adjustment of the perceiver's own personality traits to the effect of eye cues in face-personality perception; (5) From the perspective of evolutionary cognition, eye cues can be further divided into “self-interested cues” and “altruistic cues”. Self-interested cues are the cues of the perceived person's own adaptation to the environment (such as sclera color, limbal ring); altruistic cues are the cues that the perceived person helps the perceiver to adapt to the environment (such as sclera size index). Whether the perceiver can recognize “altruistic” cues and produce a stable effect, and what are the similarities and differences between the effects of "self-interested" cues and "altruistic" cues, remains to be explored.

  • 第一印象中面孔-知觉和语音-知觉的异同

Abstract: People can quickly form the first impression of the strangers’ personality according to their face cues and/or voice cues. To explore the difference and the similarity of these two ways of personality perception, we compared these two sides of studies reported by the same teams. Firstly, both the first impression of face-personality perception and the first impression of voice-personality perception have similar two -dimensional structure models. Some studies had named them as "valence-dominance dimensional model" and others had named them as "approachability-capability dimensional model". The two dimensions reflect inference about the person’s intentions——harmful v.s. harmless, and the person’s ability to implement these intentions, respectively. Furthermore, considering from the perspectives of occurrence and development, cognitive formation mechanism, physiological mechanism and neural mechanism, the internal mechanism of the first impression of face- and voice-personality perception are similar to some extent. On the other hand, there are some differences between the first impression of face- and voice-personality perception, including being different in some specific personality traits contained in the same dimension, the rate of the total variation explained by the same dimension or the personality traits, and the perceived reliability of the same dimension, etc.. Such differences indicate that, during the formation of the first impression of personality perception, the face and the voice cues are different in sensitive personality traits and sensitive dimensions. Face cues may be more sensitive to the valence/approachability dimension and the related personality traits, while voice cues may be more sensitive to the dominance/capability dimension and the related personality traits. In addition, face cues and voice cues provide different physical properties for the overgeneralization of cognition to rely on, therefore, the cognitive process and the results of the overgeneralization vary between these two modality processing, that is, the overgeneralization for some specific content and cognitive mechanism have the modal specificity. Some studies have disclosed neural evidence that the differences between two modal processing were manifested in the early stage of cognitive processing. Therefore, it is valuable to know the whole picture and the essence of similarities and differences between the first impression of face- and voice-personality perception. Their similarities consist of the basis for the integration of face-voice cues in the first impression of personality perception. Their differences indicate that face and voice would have adaptive weight allocation in the integration of personality perception. In the future study, it is necessary to directly compare the first impression of face- and voice-personality perception based on the same group of participants who provided the face and the voice stimuli, so as to directly, systematically and comprehensively reveal their similarities and differences. Secondly, since previous studies mainly used the open -ended subjective evaluation as the experimental task, focusing on the results of the first impression of personality perception, future research can design experimental tasks compatible with neuro-imaging techniques and investigate the process characteristics of the first impression of face- and voice -personality perception. In addition, as the sensitive personality traits and sensitive dimensions of faces and voice cues might be different, it is important to explore how people integrate these two sources of information and form a holistic first impression of personality perception.

  • 特质及脑功能连接对社交网络的影响

Subjects: Psychology >> Social Psychology submitted time 2023-03-27 Cooperative journals: 《心理学报》

Abstract: Humans are a social species that are constantly involved in complex relationships, reacting to the actions of others, and intentionally or unintentionally changing our own behavior. Personality traits reflect the behavioral pattern of an individual's response to the environment, which also includes social behavior. In addition, the brain is also an important factor when discussing social networks. The brain provides biological mechanisms for human behavior, while social networks provide external triggers for these behaviors. Linking personality traits and brain activity to social networks can help us better understand the structure of group relationships, improve our understanding of individual human beings, and help us better predict individual social behaviors and find the rules of information transmission in interpersonal relationships. From the perspective of a network, we collected nine social networks from 94 undergraduate students in the same grade according to their different social needs. We used the graph theory and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging to explore the influence of personality traits on social networks based on individual popularity and closeness between individuals and the relationship between the similarity of brain resting-state functional connectivity and social distance between individuals. Specifically, regression analysis was carried out, with personality traits as the independent variables and the different degrees of social networks as the dependent variables. Then, a correlation analysis was performed for the social distance and similarity of personality traits. Finally, the correlation between the similarity of the brain networks and social distance was calculated. The results showed that (1) individuals with high conscientiousness were more popular in social networks requiring "trust" traits, while individuals with high agreeableness were more popular in social networks requiring "fun" traits. These findings showed that in the same group, there are different social networks according to social needs, and the popularity of individuals in different social networks is not similar as it will be affected by the corresponding personality traits; (2) In the social networks requiring "shared interests & values, " personality similarity and social distance between individuals were significantly negatively correlated. Personality similarity promotes interpersonal communication between individuals, which may be realized through interpersonal attraction induced by the similarity of values and interests; (3) In the same social network, there is a significantly negative correlation between similarities in functional connections (FCs) and social distance among individuals, and these FCs are mainly concentrated in the fronto-parietal task control network and the dorsal attention network. The similarity of resting brain FCs among individuals may promote interpersonal communication, possibly due to the similarity of individuals in cognitive control and environmental processing bias, which increases the interpersonal attraction and shortening the social distance between individuals. The results revealed the influence of personality traits on the structure of different social networks, the relationship between personality trait similarity among individuals, and the similarity between resting brain networks and social distance, which has important implications for understanding the structure of social networks, the formation rules, and the information transmission rules among them. In addition, this study discussed the relationship between the similarity of resting-state FC and social distance, providing new evidence for studies on brain synchronization in interpersonal communication and brain imaging evidence for the study of the relationship between the similarity of personality traits and social distance.#social networks, personality traits, resting-state functional connectivity
