  • ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF STRUCTURES RIGIDLY CONNECTED WITH WEAK SKY CORRIDOR

Subjects: Civil Engineering and Building Construction >> Civil Construction Structures submitted time 2023-11-11

Abstract: This report summaries the current status about the design of the structures rigidly connected with weak sky corridor, followed by studying in details the theoretical issues involved in the structural analysis associated with the estimation of torsion performance of the connected structures and cracking and stiffness deterioration of the connecting slabs, which are concerned by structural engineers.

In this report, taking deformation characteristics of the weak connecting slab as a key point, the basic principles of damage mechanics are applied to conduct a detailed and in-depth study on the stress redistribution between the concrete and steel, as well as between the concrete slab and supporting steel gird due to the damage evolution and deterioration of elastic modulus of the damaged concrete. Adopting the contrary thinking according to phenomenology, a suggestion of reducing the elastic stiffness including the flexural, shear and axial stiffness as the effective stiffness by the macroscopic stiffness reduction factor R is put forward, to reflect the microscopic concrete damage effects. Thus, a practical design method is proposed, by using the equivalent elastic time history analysis of a 3D model, in which each tower has its own rigid diaphragm and the connecting slab is flexible with reduced stiffness to effectively realize the above-mentioned stress redistribution.

Through a typical engineering example of the weak slab with reduced effective stiffness of the sky corridor connecting structures presented here, the report authors’ energy and ductility-based concept of the seismic design is elaborated in detail. The results of the equivalent elastic time history analysis of the example show that it is unreasonable to completely neglect the concrete contribution to the structural system combined with the reinforced concrete connecting slab and the steel truss, verify the effectiveness of the above practical design method which adopts the equivalent elastic time history analysis to assess the torsional performance of the connected structures and realize the redistribution of the internal forces due to the stiffness deterioration of the reinforced concrete connecting slab, which results in a substantial reduction in the steel quantity of the connecting truss.

In response to the phenomenon of assigning "zero stiffness" to connecting slab, which is widely adopted currently in design, the theoretical insights and recommendations in this report are inspirational and realistic meaningful to improve the design method as well as economic and technical indicators.

  • A Preliminary Investigation of Corresponding Author Patterns in International Research Collaboration

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Information Science submitted time 2023-03-31

Abstract: [Objective] International research collaboration plays an increasingly important role in scientific research, and the corresponding author, as a key organizer and quality controller of research outputs, is one of the main contributors. This study aims to explore the corresponding author patterns in international research collaboration based on internationally co-authored papers. [Methods] Using the Web of Science database as the data source, this study employs scientometrics methods and analyzes international co-authored papers to reveal the characteristics of corresponding author patterns in international collaboration in terms of author type and research output quality. This provides data references for understanding China's role in international research collaboration and finding potential partners. [Results] The findings indicate that developing countries such as China and Iran have relatively high corresponding author rates. The global corresponding author type is dominated by single corresponding author papers, accounting for more than 75%. Developing countries like Brazil and Iran have higher proportions of single corresponding author papers, while countries such as South Africa, Egypt, and Russia have lower proportions. Developed countries with advanced technology, such as Europe and the United States, have higher proportions of single corresponding author papers. There are significant differences in the structure of journal papers of different quality among single corresponding author papers. Technologically advanced countries such as Europe and the United States have a higher proportion of single corresponding author papers in high-quality journals. When collaborating with technologically advanced countries like Europe and the United States, China mainly assumes the role of corresponding author in journals of average quality. However, when collaborating with developing countries such as Pakistan and Russia, China mainly assumes the role of corresponding author in higher-quality journals. [Limitations] This study reveals the patterns of corresponding authors at a macro level but does not delve into the underlying mechanisms. Future research can further investigate the characteristics and evolution of corresponding authors from the perspectives of author attributes, research fields, research evaluation systems, and international collaboration. [Conclusion] The findings of this study expand the research perspective on international collaboration, help to clarify the phenomenon of corresponding authors, and contribute to understanding the role of Chinese scholars in international research collaboration.

  • The Application of Paper-level Classification System inJournal’s Discipline Distribution Analysis

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Information Science submitted time 2022-07-27

Abstract: Purposes Journal’s discipline distribution is one of the key issues in the current stage of developing journal in china. In order to solve the limitations of the journal-level discipline classification system in the analysis of journal’s discipline distribution, this article intends to introduce a paper-level discipline classification system. Methods The comparative analysis was used to exemplify the advantages of the paper-level discipline classification system in the research related to journal’s discipline distribution. Results In the analysis of journal’s discipline distribution, paper-level discipline classification system effectively revealed the obvious discipline distribution differences and discipline emphasis between the multidisciplinary journals Nature and Science Bulletin, the Science China-Chemistry and Journal of the American Chemical Society. In the analysis of the discipline evolution, through the mining of the paper-level discipline classification system, we revealed that Sensors has expanded from focusing on sensor-related topics to across multiple disciplines. Based on the analysis of the overlap of journal topics, we found that Acta Oceanologica Sinica and Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, which belong to different disciplines, overlap in many research topics. In the analysis of journal impact, we take JCR “Statistics & Probability” journals as examples to analyze the difference in journal impact rankings under the two classification systems. The paper-level classification system can more effectively eliminate citation differences within disciplines, and provides a better objective classification reference for journal impact evaluation. Conclusion Compared with the journal-level discipline classification system, the paper-level discipline classification system classifies the paper as a unit, with fine granularity, fast update, and more suitable for the research practice of journal’s discipline distribution.
