  • Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix: The value of postoperative radiation in early-stage disease 「open review」

Subjects: Medicine, Pharmacy >> Clinical Medicine submitted time 2024-07-02

Abstract: Objective: The current treatment for early-stage neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix (NECC) mainly relies on operation and chemotherapy. We want to evaluate values of postoperative radiation in early-stage NECC.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study. Early-stage NECC patients from 2006 to 2022 in our hospital were included. Depending on whether received postoperative radiation, the patients were divided into Postoperative non-radiation group (Group A) and Postoperative radiation group (Group B). We use Kaplan-Meier method to analyze the progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), recurrence and OS rate.
Results: Sixty-six cases were included, 32 (48.5%) in Group A and 34 (51.5%) in Group B. After 35 (range 12-116) months follow-up, 26 (39.4%) had recurrence. Compared with Group A, Group B had lower pelvic recurrence rate (12.5% vs 2.9%, p = 0.142), higher distant recurrence rate (28.1% vs 44.1%, p = 0.177), and similar mortality rate (29.4% vs 31.3%, p = 0.871). Cervical stromal invasion ≥1/2 was more common in Group B (28.0% vs 63.0%, p = 0.012). Postoperative radiation in patients with cervical stromal invasion ≥1/2 showed an extended trend in PFS (33.9 months vs 47.9 months) and OS (40.7 months vs 70.0 months) but without statistical difference (p = 0.963, p = 0.636). Lymph-vascular space invasion (LVSI) is a high-risk factor for tumor recurrence (HR 9.13, p = 0.005), but radiation after surgery did not improve the PFS (51.5 months vs 48.8 months, p = 0.942) and OS (53.9 months vs 60.6 months, p = 0.715) in patients with LVSI.

  • Research on the Influencing Factors and Action Mechanism of Knowledge Services Capability of Science and Technology Think Tanks Based on Grounded Theory

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Information Science submitted time 2024-07-02

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance]By exploring the influencing factors of knowledge service effectiveness of science and technology think tanks and their functioning mechanisms,we can promote the overall enhancement and sustainable development of knowledge service effectiveness of science and technology think tanks,so as to promote them to play a higher value of decision-making and consulting, and also provide a reference basis for the design of the scale and evaluation system of the knowledge service effectiveness of science and technology think tanks.[Method/Process]In this paper, programmatic grounded theory is used to investigate the implementation of knowledge services in science and technology think tanks through in-depth interviews, and then the original materials obtained from the interviews are analyzed by three-level coding, and finally the theoretical model of influencing factors and action mechanism of knowledge services capability in science and technology think tanks is constructed.[Result/Conclusion]It is found that the knowledge services capability of science and technology think tanks can be divided into three aspects:the realization of application value, the deepening of theoretical research and the formation of supply and demand mechanism.Basic resources (supporting force), wisdom synergy (security force), user demand (driving force), and service characteristics (constructing force) jointly determine the level of their knowledge service effectiveness, and there is a significant mutual promotion and dependence relationship among the dimensional factors.Among them, the role of user demand on the effectiveness of knowledge services of think tanks and other factors is radial in character, tending to the center of knowledge services.Overall, the demand-driven synergistic integration of diversified institutional resources has a significant impact on the capability of think tank services. It is conducive to easing the tense "think tank-decision-making" supply-demand relationship. This idea need to be emphasized in future relevant policies and service practices.

  • Humans are invited to write cell backbones as complex numbers by writing polyribonucleotides as computable numbers

Subjects: Biology >> Molecular Biology Subjects: Mathematics >> Logic Subjects: Computer Science >> Other Disciplines of Computer Science submitted time 2024-07-01

Abstract: Polymer aggregates and molecular polymers are written as computable numbers, resulting in a unity between cells and universal Turing machines with the Entscheidungsproblem. However, whether the Entscheidungsproblem of cells really exists remains elusive. Alan Turing found universal Turing machines read only computable numbers written by humans who further differentiate transcendental numbers from the set of computable numbers by Georg Cantor’s diagonal process. It follows that the decidability of the Entscheidungsproblem derived from humans eliminates the independence of computable numbers from each other and enables computable numbers to be fused with each other into the set of computable numbers, with the result that humans are endowed with a capacity to read of the fusion of computable numbers with each other into the set of computable numbers by humans to read the set of computable numbers bearing computable numbers by being endowed with a capacity to write computable numbers. Accordingly, it is shown here how humans are invited to write cell backbones as complex numbers read by artificial intelligence machines emulated by cells by writing polyribonucleotides as computable numbers read by universal Turing machines emulated by extracellular ribosomes to extend Georg Cantor’s continuum hypothesis by being invited to extend Alan Turing’s work on the Entscheidungsproblem, resulting in a unity between cells and artificial intelligence machines without the Entscheidungsproblem.

  • The cognitive and neural mechanisms of metric structure in music: A predictive perspective

Subjects: Psychology >> Cognitive Psychology submitted time 2024-07-01

Abstract: Metric structure is the temporal framework of music. It is not only the basis for composers to create music, but also the prerequisite for people to process musical aesthetics, musical emotion and musical meaning. Hence, within the predictive coding framework, the proposed project explores the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying the prediction and integration of metric structure, using behavioral experiments and electroencephalogram techniques. Specifically, it includes the following four studies: (1) track the dynamic neural activity during the representation construction of metric structure and the prediction establishment as rhythmic sequences unfold, (2) explore how listeners use prediction errors to update the prediction of metric structure, (3) examine the neural mechanisms underlying the integration of multiple hierarchical metric structure at the phrase level and (4) investigate how listeners integrate nested metric structure according to long-distance dependency at the period level. The above research will reveal the general cognitive mechanism of the processing of musical structure and lay the foundation for the construction of cognitive neural model of music. Simultaneously, the results will provide empirical evidence for music appreciation activities and music aesthetics research, which has potential application prospects in the field of music.

Abstract: [Background]: As the commercial application of sodium-cooled fast reactors continues to develop, there is a need to develop an integrated analysis code for sodium-cooled fast reactors in order to enhance the capability for safety assessment. [Purpose]: Sodium boiling is a critical phenomenon prior to severe accidents in sodium-cooled fast reactors, and accurate prediction of thermodynamic parameters of the coolant at the onset of sodium boiling is essential for accident analysis. [Methods]: This paper introduces the development of the integrated analysis code ISAA-Na for sodium-cooled fast reactors, focusing on the core thermal-hydraulic model. The ISAA-Na code was used to simulate and analyze the loss-of-flow experiment CABRI-BI1. [Results]: Comparison with experimental data shows that ISAA-Na provides more accurate predictions of coolant temperature and pressure prior to boiling compared to other codes such as SAS4A, ASTEC-Na, and SIMMER. However, after the onset of boiling, overestimations of bubble growth rate and two-phase interface movement were observed due to the lack of fuel melting and cladding failure models. [Conclusions]: Overall, the application of the multi-bubble liquid slug boiling model in ISAA-Na for the analysis of the CABRI-BI1 experiment is deemed reasonable and reliable.

  • Development and Verification of Covariance Data Generation Module in NECP-Atlas

Subjects: Nuclear Science and Technology >> Nuclear Science and Technology submitted time 2024-07-01

Abstract:   Background : The quantification of uncertainty has become a common requirement in reactor physics analysis, with the covariance data of nuclear data serving as the foundational data for conducting uncertainty quantification.  Purpose : This study aims to develop a covariance data generation module, covar_calc, in the nuclear data processing software NECP-Atlas to produce continuous energy covariance data for Monte Carlo programs and multi-group covariance data for deterministic programs. Methods : Covar_calc module was developed to process all covariance data provided in evaluated nuclear databases, according to the different storage formats of nuclear data and different computational methods. This included the covariance data of various parameters such as average fission neutron multiplicities, cross sections, angular distributions of secondary particles, fission spectrum, resonance parameters, and neutron activation cross-sections. Results : A comparative verification is carried out with the covariance data production module in the nuclear data processing software NJOY21 to demonstrate the accuracy of the multi-group covariance databases produced by NECP-Atlas and the maximum bias is less than 0.1%. Utilizing Monte Carlo calculation code NECP-MCX and uncertainty analysis code NECP-UNICORN, sensitivity coefficients for different benchmarks are calculated. By incorporating both continuous energy covariance databases and multi-group covariance data, and utilizing the Sandwich formula, the final uncertainties are computed. The results indicate that the uncertainties calculated using the multi-group covariance data generated by NECP-Atlas exhibit comparable accuracy to those obtained with NJOY21. Conclusions : The precision in creating both continuous energy covariance and multi-group covariance meets the requirements for usage in Monte Carlo programs and deterministic programs, validating the efficacy of covar_calc module within NECP-Atlas for uncertainty quantification in reactor physics analysis.
