Abstract: Objective To elicit the preferences of the adoption of Traditional Chinses Medicine (TCM) appropriate technologies among primary health workers, and to provide policy recommendations for the promotion and use of TCM appropriate technologies in primary healthcare institutions. Methods Based on discrete choice experiment, a questionnaire-based survey was conducted among 319 primary health workers. Conditional logit model and latent class model were used. Results The conditional logit model shows that the 7 attributes included in the analysis were all statistically significant (P<0.05). In the latent class model, the respondents were divided into two classes. The main difference between the two classes was the choice of opt-out. And the class 1 accounted for about 16.2% of the respondents. Respondents of class 2 were do not accept TCM appropriate technologies. Conclusion Primary health workers prefer to use TCM appropriate technologies that can increase income, keep workload unchanged, retain or reduce patient costs, facilitate job promotion, and those are covered by medical insurance and have better efficacy. Therefore, promoting the inclusion of TCM appropriate technologies into the medical insurance reimbursement catalog, and linking the use of TCM appropriate technologies with the medical staff promotion system can effectively increase the utility of primary health workers to use TCM appropriate technologies. In addition, different incentive strategies should be adopted for different classes of primary health workers.
