  • Simplifying Low-Light Image Enhancement Networks with Relative Loss Functions

    摘要: Image enhancement is a common technique used to mitigate issues such as severe noise, low brightness, low contrast, and color deviation in low-light images. However, providing an optimal high-light image as a reference for low-light image enhancement tasks is impossible, which makes the learning process more difficult than other image processing tasks. As a result, although several low-light image enhancement methods have been proposed, most of them are either too complex or insufficient in addressing all the issues in low-light images. In this paper, to make the learning easier in low-light image enhancement, we introduce FLW-Net (Fast and LightWeight Network) and two relative loss functions. Specifically, we first recognize the challenges of the need for a large receptive field to obtain global contrast and the lack of an absolute reference, which limits the simplification of network structures in this task. Then, we propose an efficient global feature information extraction component and two loss functions based on relative information to overcome these challenges. Finally, we conducted comparative experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, and the results confirm that the proposed method can significantly reduce the complexity of supervised low-light image enhancement networks while improving processing effect.

  • Design and fabrication of button-style beam position monitors for the HEPS synchrotron light facility

    摘要: At the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), a high orbital stability of typically 10 % of the beam size and angular divergence must be achieved. The beam size at the insertion devices is 10 m horizontally and 1 m vertically, which implies that the beam orbit must be stabilized to the sub-micrometer level. This results in stringent tolerance and quality control requirements for the series production of beam position monitor (BPM) pickups. In this study, analytical formulas were used and CST simulations were performed to analyze the effects of the mechanical tolerances of BPM pickups on beam position measurement. The results of electromagnetic field simulations revealed how various mechanical errors, such as button size and location accuracy, as well as the related button capacitance, exert different influences on the beam position measurement. The performance of an actual BPM pickup was measured, along with an assessment of the error on the beam position measurement. Additionally, a wakefield analysis, including an investigation of trapped resonant modes and related thermal deformation, was conducted.

  • Variations of the Galactic Cosmic Rays in the Recent Solar Cycles

    摘要: In this paper, we study the galactic cosmic ray (GCR) variations over the solar cycles 23 and 24, with measurements from the NASA's ACE/CRIS instrument and the ground-based neutron monitors (NMs). The results show that the maximum GCR intensities of heavy nuclei (nuclear charge 5-28, 50-500 MeV/nuc) at 1 AU during the solar minimum in 2019-2020 break their previous records, exceeding those recorded in 1997 and 2009 by ~25% and ~6%, respectively, and are at the highest levels since the space age. However, the peak NM count rates are lower than those in late 2009. The difference between GCR intensities and NM count rates still remains to be explained. Furthermore, we find that the GCR modulation environment during the solar minimum P24/25 are significantly different from previous solar minima in several aspects, including remarkably low sunspot numbers, extremely low inclination of the heliospheric current sheet, rare coronal mass ejections, weak interplanetary magnetic field and turbulence. These changes are conducive to reduce the level of solar modulation, providing a plausible explanation for the record-breaking GCR intensities in interplanetary space.

  • Comparison of Anomalous and Galactic Cosmic Ray Oxygen at 1 au during 1997-2020

    摘要: Using quiet-time measurements of element oxygen within the energy range 7.3--237.9 MeV nuc$^{-1}$ from the ACE spacecraft at 1 au, we compare the energy spectra and intensities of anomalous and Galactic cosmic rays (ACRs and GCRs, respectively) during 1997--2020. Our analysis shows that the transition from ACR-dominated spectrum to GCR-dominated spectrum occurs at energies $\sim$15 to $\sim$35 MeV nuc$^{-1}$, and the transition energy $E_t$ is found to be well anticorrelated with varying solar activity. This is the first study of ACR-GCR transition energy dependence on the solar cycle variation. At energies below $E_t$, the index of the power-law ACR-dominated spectrum ($\gamma_1$) ranges from -2.0 to -0.5, whereas the GCR-dominated spectrum has a power-law index ($\gamma_2$) changing from 0.3 to 0.8 at energies ranging from $E_t$ to 237.9 MeV nuc$^{-1}$. Both $\gamma_1$ and $\gamma_2$ are positively correlated with solar activity. In addition, during the solar cycle 24/25 minimum period, the peak GCR intensity observed by ACE spacecraft is about 8\% above its 2009 value, setting a new record since the space age, while the peak ACR intensity is almost similar to that of the previous two solar cycles with the same pattern of solar magnetic polarity, indicating a different modulation mechanism between ACRs and GCRs.

  • Enantio-detection of cyclic three-level chiral molecules in a driven cavity

    摘要: We propose an enantio-detection method of chiral molecules in a cavity with external drive. The chiral molecules are coupled with a quantized cavity field and two classical light fields to form the cyclic three-level systems. The chirality-dependent cavity-assisted three-photon process in the three-level systems leads to the generation of intracavity photons. Simultaneously, the drive field also results in the chirality-independent process of the generation of intracavity photons. Based on the interference between the intracavity photons generated from these two processes, one can detect the enantiomeric excess of chiral mixture via monitoring the transmission rate of the drive field.

  • Enantio-detection via cavity-assisted three-photon processes

    摘要: We propose a method for enantio-detection of chiral molecules based on a cavity-molecule system, where the left- and right-handed molecules are coupled with a cavity and two classical light fields to form cyclic three-level models. Via the cavity-assisted three-photon processes based on the cyclic three-level model, photons are generated continuously in the cavity even in the absence of external driving to the cavity. However, the photonic fields generated from the three-photon processes of left- and right-handed molecules differ with the phase difference {\pi} according to the inherent properties of electric-dipole transition moments of enantiomers. This provides a potential way to detect the enantiomeric excess of chiral mixture by monitoring the output field of the cavity.
