Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: Soybean is one of the most important crops for food and oil. The soybean demand has been increased in recent years in China. Since China has limited soybean production capacity, it has been importing increasing amount of soybean from abroad. It is a critical topic for China to develop the soybean production and expand the import channels to ensure food security. Based on the soybean demand-supply situation from 2011 to 2020, this paper discussed the problems including severely insufficient domestic production and supply, high level of reliance on international supply, and limited import channels. It put forward suggestions on approaches to enhancing scientific research for improving soybean production capacity domestically, strengthening international science and technology cooperation and global layout for production, and widening the soybean import channels. These will be helpful for improving the soybean supply capacity and fulfilling the aim of food security in China.

  • Marine Ranching Version 3.0: History, Status and Prospects

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: Since the 1930s, the construction of marine ranching has successively experienced the version 1.0 (traditional marine ranching) of farming-ranching and engineering, and the version 2.0 (marine ecological ranching) of ecologization and informatization, and now it is about to enter the version 3.0 (global aquatic ecological ranching) of digitalization and systematization, which covers seawater and fresh water. Marine ranching version 3.0 must adhere to the modern aquatic ecological ranching development concept of “ecology, precision, intelligence, integration”, characterized by synchronous protection and utilization, expansion of scene and space, breakthrough in core technology, and innovation in development patterns. After establishing the whole industrial technology chain of scientific site selection, layout planning, habitat restoration, bio-resource conservation, safety protection and integrative development, a “modern upgraded version” of marine ranching will be established in the northern waters, a“strategic new space” of marine ranching will be expanded in the southern waters, and a new trial of freshwater ranching will be started, so as to support the construction of national marine ranching demonstration zone and lead the construction and development of aquatic ecological ranching around the world.

  • Perspectives of Chinese Medicine Agriculture and Rural Revitalization

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, and also wrote it into the party constitution, which is an epoch-making milestone in the development of China “three rural” development process. The convergence among rural primary, secondary, and tertiary industries is the path of rural industrial revitalization, which conforms to the law of industrial development and reflects the multiple benefits of modern agriculture. Because of its cultural tolerance, concept specificity, and technical non-invasiveness, Chinese traditional medicine has unique charm and far#2;reaching significance for promoting the construction of healthy villages and assisting rural revitalization. This article explores the important role of Chinese traditional medicine in promoting industrial revitalization, talent revitalization, cultural revitalization, ecologicalcivilization , and poverty alleviation. It also proposes relevant policy recommendations.

  • Developing Strategies of Functional Milk and Meat Products from Herbivorous Animal Husbandry

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: In the past 40 years, the animal husbandry industry in China has been developed very fast through the technological and social development. It has been changed into a new stage from quantity to quality of the animal products, and more attention has been paid on the healthy food. The functional animal products will be an important breakthrough for the high-quality development of animal husbandry. This paper reviews the current animal husbandry industry and functional products of herbivorous animal husbandry in China and abroad. Several key scientific and technological issues on functional milk and meat are analyzed. Practical exploration including biotechnology (genetic breeding and biosynthesis) and non-biotechnology (feeding technology) on how to develop the production of functional milk and meat is proposed. It is expected that we can study and consolidate the regulationtheory and technology of functional milk and meat of herbivorous animal husbandry by supports from the national strategic level. It will be significantly important to guide the sustainable development of herbivorous livestock and human diet consumption, and to build the domestic flagship brand of milk and meat products in China.

  • Functions and Applications of Critical Zone Observatory of Luancheng Agro-Ecosystem Experimental Station, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Luancheng Critical Zone Observatory)

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: The Luancheng Agro-Ecosystem Experimental Station, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is located in the piedmont plain area of North China Plain and the middle section of the Taihang Mountain alluvial plain. It is a typical representative of the high-yield agricultural eco-system in the groundwater irrigation area. Due to the large-scale and high-intensity agricultural production in recent decades, the regional groundwater has been seriously over exploited, and the risk of groundwater pollution has increased. However, the surface agro-ecosystem and aquifer are separated by thick vadose zones, hence the mechanism of the impact of surface agricultural activities on the quantity and quality of groundwater is still unclear. The in-situ monitoring throughout the entire vadose zone is the only method to reveal the mechanism of this process. Therefore, the establishment of a large-scale critical zone observatory is the most important requisite for conducting research on the relationship between agriculture and groundwater. With the support of the corner#2;stone research infrastructure project for the field station network of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Luancheng Station began to construct the “Water and Solute Cycle Observation Platform in Groundwater-Soil-Crop System” in 2016, and the construction was completed in November 2020. An observatory caisson with a depth of 48 m and an inner diameter of 2.8 m has been built. The platform was officially named ‘Luancheng Critical Zone Observatory’ (LC-CZO). LC-CZO can measure the key variables such as soil water content, matric potential, soil temperature, and solute concentration in the root zone-deep vadose zone-saturated zone. The monitoring results enable the study on the patterns of the transport and transformation of water, solutes and pollutants in the thick vadose zone reveal the hydrological process of the saturated-unsaturated transition zone and its relationship with groundwater replenishment, explain the migration and transformation of nitrogen applied in farmland and its impact on groundwater quality, and provide experimental platform support for exploring the impact mechanism of land surface process on the groundwater quantity and quality.
