  • Monitoring rock desert formation caused by two different origins (ice-snow melting and drying) in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China by considering topographic and meteorological elements

    摘要:Monitoring rock desert formation caused by two different origins (ice-snow melting and drying) through remote sensing is crucial to our understanding of the interaction between the underlying surface of different rock desert and land-atmosphere types, as well as the relationship between bare land and soil erosion. A number of achievements have been made in remote sensing monitoring of desert areas, but there is a lack of accurate classification and remote sensing identification of rock desert types based on formation mechanism. In this study, the north and south sides of the eastern Kunlun Mountains in the northern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China were taken as the study areas. Landsat operational landscape imager, digital elevation model, and precipitation and temperature grid data were used as data sources. By identifying the bare areas based on the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), we used the multi-element fusion method of contours, isotherms, and isohyets to identify the rock desert types in the ice-snow melting and dry areas. The results showed that: (1) the rock desert areas identified by remote sensing based on topographic and meteorological elements were highly accurate, with an overall accuracy of 88.45% and kappa coefficient of 0.77. The multi-element fusion method of contours, isotherms, and isohyets could effectively identify the rock desert types in the ice-snow melting and dry areas; (2) the optimal segmentation range of the ice-snow melting and dry areas was 3600 m contour, –2°C–2°C isotherms, and 100–130 mm isohyets. The areas with elevation less than 3600 m, annual average temperature higher than 2°C, and average annual precipitation less than 100 mm were rock desert in the dry areas. The range of –2°C–2°C isotherms and 100–130 mm isohyets was the transition area between the ice-snow melting and dry areas. The areas with elevation higher than 3600 m, annual average temperature less than –2°C, and average annual precipitation higher than 130 mm were rock desert in the ice-snow melting areas; and (3) the identification accuracy of the bare areas based on the NDVI method was better, specifically, the identification accuracy of plain bare areas was generally better than that of mountain bare areas. The remote sensing identification method considers not only the topographic factors that have great influence on the spatial distribution of the two types of rock desert areas, but also the meteorological factors, which can provide a scientific reference for the effective identification of the two types of rock desert areas.

  • Static and dynamic evolution of CO adsorption on γ-U (1 0 0) surface with different levels of Mo doping using DFT and AIMD calculations

    摘要: Alloys of uranium and molybdenum are considered as the future of nuclear fuel and defense materials. However, surface corrosion is a fundamental problem in practical applications and storage. In this study, the static and dynamic evolution of carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption and dissociation on -U (1 0 0) surface with different Mo doping levels was investigated based on density functional theory and ab initio molecular dynamics. During the static calculation phase, parameters, such as adsorption energy, configuration, and Bader charge, were evaluated at all adsorption sites. Furthermore, the time-dependent behavior of CO molecule adsorption were investigated at the most favorable sites. The minimum energy paths for CO molecular dissociation and atom migration were investigated using the transition state search method. The results demonstrated that the CO on the uranium surface mainly manifests as chemical adsorption before dissociation of the CO molecule. The CO molecule exhibited a tendency to rotate and tilt upright adsorption. However, it is difficult for CO adsorption on the surface in one of the configurations with CO molecule in vertical direction but oxygen (O) is closer to the surface. Bader charge illustrates that the charge transfers from slab atoms to the 2* antibonding orbital of CO molecule and particularly occurs in carbon (C) atoms. The time is less than 100 fs for the adsorptions that forms embryos with tilt upright in dynamics evolution. The density of states elucidates that the overlapping hybridization of C and O 2p orbitals is mainly formed via the d orbitals of uranium and molybdenum (Mo) atoms in the dissociation and re-adsorption of CO molecule. In conclusion, Mo-doping of the surface can decelerate the adsorption and dissociation of CO molecules. A Mo-doped surface, created through ion injection, enhanced the resistance to uranium-induced surface corrosion.

  • Production of $\gamma\gamma+$2 jets from double parton scattering in proton-proton collisions at the LHC

    摘要: Cross sections for the production of pairs of photons plus two additional jets produced from double parton scattering in high-energy proton-proton collisions at the LHC are calculated for the first time. The estimates are based on the theoretical perturbative QCD predictions for the productions of \gamma\gamma at next-to-next-to-leading-order, jet + jet and \gamma + jet at next-to-leading-order, for their corresponding single-scattering cross sections. The cross sections and expected event rates for \gamma\gamma + 2 jets from double parton scattering, after typical acceptance and selections, are given for proton-proton collisions with the center-of-mass energies of 13 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 100 fb-1 planned for the following two years, and also center-of-mass energies of 14 TeV with 3000 fb-1 of integrated luminosity as LHC designed.

  • An optics-free computational spectrometer using a broadband and tunable dynamic detector

    摘要: Optical spectrometers are the central instruments for exploring the interaction between light and matter. The current pursuit of the field is to design a spectrometer without the need for wavelength multiplexing optics to effectively reduce the complexity and physical size of the hardware. Based on computational spectroscopic results and combining a broadband-responsive dynamic detector, we successfully demonstrate an optics-free single-detector spectrometer that maps the tunable quantum efficiency of a superconducting nanowire into an ill-conditioned matrix to build a solvable inverse mathematical equation. Such a spectrometer can realize a broadband spectral responsivity ranging from 660 to 1900 nm. The spectral resolution at the telecom is 6 nm, exceeding the energy resolving capacity of existing infrared single-photon detectors. Meanwhile, benefiting from the optics-free setup, precise time-of-flight measurements can be simultaneously achieved. We have demonstrated a spectral LiDAR with 8 spectral channels. This work provides a concise method for building multifunctional spectrometers and paves the way for applying superconducting nanowire detectors in spectroscopy.

  • The In-Flight Realtime Trigger and Localization Software of GECAM

    摘要: Realtime trigger and localization of bursts are the key functions of GECAM, which is an all-sky gamma-ray monitor launched in Dec 10, 2020. We developed a multifunctional trigger and localization software operating on the CPU of the GECAM electronic box (EBOX). This onboard software has the following features: high trigger efficiency for real celestial bursts with a suppression of false triggers caused by charged particle bursts and background fluctuation, dedicated localization algorithm optimized for short and long bursts respetively, short time latency of the trigger information which is downlinked throught the BeiDou satellite navigation System (BDS). This paper presents the detailed design and deveopment of this trigger and localization software system of GECAM, including the main functions, general design, workflow and algorithms, as well as the verification and demonstration of this software, including the on-ground trigger tests with simulated gamma-ray bursts made by a dedicated X-ray tube and the in-flight performance to real gamma-ray bursts and magnetar bursts.

  • First BISTRO observations of the dark cloud Taurus L1495A-B10: the role of the magnetic field in the earliest stages of low-mass star formation

    摘要: We present BISTRO Survey 850 {\mu}m dust emission polarisation observations of the L1495A-B10 region of the Taurus molecular cloud, taken at the JCMT. We observe a roughly triangular network of dense filaments. We detect 9 of the dense starless cores embedded within these filaments in polarisation, finding that the plane-of-sky orientation of the core-scale magnetic field lies roughly perpendicular to the filaments in almost all cases. We also find that the large-scale magnetic field orientation measured by Planck is not correlated with any of the core or filament structures, except in the case of the lowest-density core. We propose a scenario for early prestellar evolution that is both an extension to, and consistent with, previous models, introducing an additional evolutionary transitional stage between field-dominated and matter-dominated evolution, observed here for the first time. In this scenario, the cloud collapses first to a sheet-like structure. Uniquely, we appear to be seeing this sheet almost face-on. The sheet fragments into filaments, which in turn form cores. However, the material must reach a certain critical density before the evolution changes from being field-dominated to being matter-dominated. We measure the sheet surface density and the magnetic field strength at that transition for the first time and show consistency with an analytical prediction that had previously gone untested for over 50 years (Mestel 1965).
