    Abstract: The vibration characteristics of sandwich structures with typical disordered porous cores ( i.e. ,fiber felt , closed-cell aluminum foam , and open-cell aluminum foam ) were analyzed through laboratory mo-dal tests of sandwich cantilevers with fixed end boundary conditions applied at a free end. It was found thatcompared with the corresponding steel plates of the same mass , the sandwich beams with disordered porousmetal cores have higher natural frequencies and damping ratios at the first three modes.Any cross sectionof the steel beam has the same vibration characteristics on its all points , but all points of vibration charac-teristics of sandwich beams at any cross section depend on the common influence of relative density andpeak strength.

    Abstract: A newly developed composite projectile designed to simulate cased explosive's combined load-ing and numerical method were implemented to study dynamic behavior of Weldox 460 E steel corrugatedcore sandwich beam subjected to combined blast and impact loading.Finite element modeling setting wasvalidated based on published experimental and numerical results. By comparing the ballistic limit differ-ence between the composite projectile and the flat-headed fragment simulation projectile ( FSP) , it is foundthat the ballistic limit of the cornugated sandwich beam is higher when subjected to the composite projectilethan that under the single fragment simulation projectile condition. The main causes of the difference ofballistic limits are also explored. A parametric study was conducted and the influence of loading time in-terval on the target's ballistic limit , the mid-span displacement of the back face sheet and the energy absorbed from FSP was explored,which provides a reference for the design of corugated sandwich beam asprotective structure under combined blast and impact loading.

    Abstract: Blast loading induced by shallow-buried explosives is the main threat to an armored vehicle andits occupants. Studying and investigating the underlying mechanism and its influential factors is the pre-requisite and basis for improving the survivability of amored vehicles and ensure the safety of occupants.We present a critical overview on the destruction mechanisms of shallow buried explosives and the corre-sponding measurement methodologies and characterization. First , various research methodologies for blastdynamics are introduced , and factors affecting blast load transmission are summarized and discussed.Then , experimental and simulation methodologies concerning shallow-buried explosive blast loading aresummarized. Finally , future research directions concerning protection against shallow-buried explosives arehighlighted.
