Abstract: Based on recent development in foundation model, parallel intelligence, decentralized science (DeSci), and other artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, from AI for Science (AI4S) to Science for AI (S4AI), this study discusses parallel sciences and digital scientists, and their impact and significance in paradigm shift for research and development as well as Industry 5.0 and intelligent industry, which demonstrate that paradigm shift is emerging and accelerating, and we must be prepared.

Abstract: The rise of artificial intelligence for science (AI4S) has made it particularly important and urgent to ensure the openness, fairness, impartiality, diversity, and sustainability of scientific systems. This is significant to the discourse power and leadership of countries in global innovation and industrial revolution, and also affects the security, stability, and sustainable development of a community with a shared future for mankind. To address these challenges, AI4S needs to adopt new scientific organizational and operational methods. Decentralized science (DeSci) has emerged to vitalize AI4S and provide strong support, effectively addressing issues such as information silos, biases, unfair distribution, and monopolies in existing research systems, and promoting multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary cooperation in science. This study defines the basic concepts, characteristics, and framework of DeSci, analyzes its current research and application status, and explores the implications and significance of DeSci for the further development of the scientific systems.

Abstract:近期,以 ChatGPT 为代表的大模型技术正开启人类社会智能化的新纪元。研究人工智能成功案例背后 的技术原理,探索人工智能驱动的科学研究(AI for Science,AI4S)新范式,对促进我国科技进步、增强国 家竞争力具有十分重要的意义。文章首先以数学、物理学、生物学、材料科学领域为例,简述 AI4S 的研究 进展。其次,面向近年来最为成功的人工智能范例,分析 AlphaFold 和 ChatGPT 的基本原理和关键技术。最 后,在以上分析的基础上,从算法、模型、数据、知识、人的因素等角度,总结大模型时代人工智能技术发 展新趋势,探讨 AI4S 研究新范式。

Abstract: What are the nature and goal of Intelligent Technology? What are the origin and mission of Intelligent Science? What are the impact and significance of Intelligent Industries to our societies and the future development of Human Being? Starting from the topic of AlphaGo, based on Karl Popper’s Three Worlds theory, this article addresses the above questions and discussed the beginning and trend of Artificial Intelligence and Parallel Intelligence. It then proposes Parallel Philosophy as the new philosophy system for Intelligent Science and Intelligent Technology, which extends the scope of traditional philosophy from Being, Becoming to Believing, and the corresponding Knowledge system from Descriptive, Predictive, to Prescriptive Knowledge. Intelligent Education and Smart Economics are used as two most important examples in the study here.
