摘要: Using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) in Guizhou, China, we detect the 21cm neutral atomic hydrogen absorption in the young planetary nebula IC 4997. The absorption arises from a shell also associated with Na I D lines. The H I shell has a mass of $1.46\times10^{-2}$ M$_\odot$ and a dynamic age of 990yr. The column density of H I is estimated to be $7.1\times10^{20}$ cm$^{-2}$, which can be well explained in terms of a photodissociation region around the ionized nebula, limited by self shielding of H$_2$. We find that the atomic-to-ionized hydrogen ratio is 0.6, suggesting that H I substantially contributes to overall nebular mass.

摘要: HII regions made of gas ionized by radiations from young massive stars, are widely distributed in the Milky Way. They are tracers for star formation, and their distributions are correlated with the Galactic spiral structure. Radio recombination lines (RRLs) of hydrogen and other atoms allows for the precisest determination of physical parameters such as temperature and density. However, RRLs at around 1.4 GHz from HII regions are weak and their detections are difficult. As a result, only a limited number of detections have been obtained yet. The 19-beam receiver on board of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) can simultaneously cover 23 RRLs for H$n{\alpha}$, He$n{\alpha}$, and C$n{\alpha}$ ($n = 164 - 186$), respectively. This, combined with its unparalleled collecting area, makes FAST the most powerful telescope to detect weak RRLs. In this pilot survey, we use FAST to observe nine HII regions at L band. We allocate 20 minutes pointing time for each source to achieve a sensitivity of around 9 mK in a velocity resolution of 2.0 km/s. In total, 21 RRLs for H$n{\alpha}$ and C$n{\alpha}$ at $1.0 - 1.5$ GHz have been simultaneously detected with strong emission signals. Overall, the detection rates for the H167${\alpha}$ and C167${\alpha}$ RRLs are 100%, while that for the He167${\alpha}$ RRL is 33.3%. Using hydrogen and helium RRLs, we measure the electron density, electron temperature, and pressure for three HII regions. This pilot survey demonstrates the capability of FAST in RRL measurements, and a statistically meaningful sample with RRL detection, through which knowledges about Galactic spiral structure and evolution can be obtained, is expected in the future.

摘要: Based on a new HI survey using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), combined with the Pan-STARRS1 images, we identified an isolated HI cloud without any optical counterpart, named FAST J0139+4328. The newly discovered HI cloud appears to be a typical disk galaxy since it has a double-peak shape in the global HI profile and an S-like rotation structure in the velocity-position diagram. Moreover, this disk galaxy has an extremely low absolute magnitude (M_B>-10.0 mag) and stellar mass (<6.9*10^5 Msun). Furthermore, we obtained that the HI mass of this galaxy is 8.3*10^7 Msun, and the dynamical mass to total baryonic mass ratio is 47+-27, implying that dark matter dominates over baryons in FAST J0139+4328. These findings provide observational evidence that FAST J0139+4328 is an isolated dark dwarf galaxy with a redshift of z=0.0083. This is the first time that an isolated dark galaxy has been detected in the nearby universe.

摘要: In radio astronomy, radio frequency interference (RFI) becomes more and more serious for radio observational facilities. The RFI always influences the search and study of the interesting astronomical objects. Mitigating the RFI becomes an essential procedure in any survey data processing. Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) is an extremely sensitive radio telescope. It is necessary to find out an effective and precise RFI mitigation method for FAST data processing. In this work, we introduce a method to mitigate the RFI in FAST spectral observation and make a statistics for the RFI using around 300 hours FAST data. The details are as follows. Firstly, according to the characteristics of FAST spectra, we propose to use the ArPLS algorithm for baseline fitting. Our test results show that it has a good performance. Secondly, we flag the RFI with four strategies, which are to flag extremely strong RFI, flag long-lasting RFI, flag polarized RFI, and flag beam-combined RFI, respectively. The test results show that all the RFI above a preset threshold could be flagged. Thirdly, we make a statistics for the probabilities of polarized XX and YY RFI in FAST observations. The statistical results could tell us which frequencies are relatively quiescent. With such statistical data, we are able to avoid using such frequencies in our spectral observations. Finally, based on the around 300 hours FAST data, we got an RFI table, which is the most complete database currently for FAST.

摘要: We present 850 $\mu$m dust polarization observations of the massive DR21 filament from the B-fields In STar-forming Region Observations (BISTRO) survey, using the POL-2 polarimeter and the SCUBA-2 camera on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. We detect ordered magnetic fields perpendicular to the parsec-scale ridge of the DR21 main filament. In the sub-filaments, the magnetic fields are mainly parallel to the filamentary structures and smoothly connect to the magnetic fields of the main filament. We compare the POL-2 and Planck dust polarization observations to study the magnetic field structures of the DR21 filament on 0.1--10 pc scales. The magnetic fields revealed in the Planck data are well aligned with those of the POL-2 data, indicating a smooth variation of magnetic fields from large to small scales. The plane-of-sky magnetic field strengths derived from angular dispersion functions of dust polarization are 0.6--1.0 mG in the DR21 filament and $\sim$ 0.1 mG in the surrounding ambient gas. The mass-to-flux ratios are found to be magnetically supercritical in the filament and slightly subcritical to nearly critical in the ambient gas. The alignment between column density structures and magnetic fields changes from random alignment in the low-density ambient gas probed by Planck to mostly perpendicular in the high-density main filament probed by JCMT. The magnetic field structures of the DR21 filament are in agreement with MHD simulations of a strongly magnetized medium, suggesting that magnetic fields play an important role in shaping the DR21 main filament and sub-filaments.

摘要: We study the HII regions associated with the NGC 6334 molecular cloud observed in the sub-millimeter and taken as part of the B-fields In STar-forming Region Observations (BISTRO) Survey. In particular, we investigate the polarization patterns and magnetic field morphologies associated with these HII regions. Through polarization pattern and pressure calculation analyses, several of these bubbles indicate that the gas and magnetic field lines have been pushed away from the bubble, toward an almost tangential (to the bubble) magnetic field morphology. In the densest part of NGC 6334, where the magnetic field morphology is similar to an hourglass, the polarization observations do not exhibit observable impact from HII regions. We detect two nested radial polarization patterns in a bubble to the south of NGC 6334 that correspond to the previously observed bipolar structure in this bubble. Finally, using the results of this study, we present steps (incorporating computer vision; circular Hough Transform) that can be used in future studies to identify bubbles that have physically impacted magnetic field lines.

摘要: We present a new high-sensitivity HI observation toward nearby spiral galaxy M101 and its adjacent 2$^{\circ}\times$ 2$^{\circ}$ region using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). From the observation, we detect a more extended and asymmetric HI disk around M101. While the HI velocity field within the M101's optical disk region is regular, indicating that the relatively strong disturbance occurs in its outer disk. Moreover, we identify three new HI clouds located on the southern edge of the M101's HI disk. The masses of the three HI clouds are 1.3$\times$10$^{7}$ $M_{\odot}$, 2.4$\times$10$^{7}$ $M_{\odot}$, and 2.0$\times$10$^{7}$ $M_{\odot}$, respectively. The HI clouds similar to dwarf companion NGC 5477 rotate with the HI disk of M101. Unlike the NGC 5477, they have no optical counterparts. Furthermore, we detect a new HI tail in the extended HI disk of M101. The HI tail detected gives a reliable evidence for M101 interaction with the dwarf companion NGC 5474. We argue that the extra-planar gas (three HI clouds) and the HI tail detected in the M101's disk may origin from a minor interaction with NGC 5474.

摘要: Gas at high Galactic latitude is a relatively little-noticed component of the interstellar medium. In an effort to address this, forty-one Planck Galactic Cold Clumps at high Galactic latitude (HGal; $|b|>25^{\circ}$) were observed in $^{12}$CO, $^{13}$CO and C$^{18}$O J=1-0 lines, using the Purple Mountain Observatory 13.7-m telescope. $^{12}$CO (1-0) and $^{13}$CO (1-0) emission was detected in all clumps while C$^{18}$O (1-0) emission was only seen in sixteen clumps. The highest and average latitudes are $71.4^{\circ}$ and $37.8^{\circ}$, respectively. Fifty-one velocity components were obtained and then each was identified as a single clump. Thirty-three clumps were further mapped at 1$^\prime$ resolution and 54 dense cores were extracted. Among dense cores, the average excitation temperature $T_{\mathrm{ex}}$ of $^{12}$CO is 10.3 K. The average line widths of thermal and non-thermal velocity dispersions are $0.19$ km s$^{-1}$ and $0.46$ km s$^{-1}$ respectively, suggesting that these cores are dominated by turbulence. Distances of the HGal clumps given by Gaia dust reddening are about $120-360$ pc. The ratio of $X_{13}$/$X_{18}$ is significantly higher than that in the solar neighbourhood, implying that HGal gas has a different star formation history compared to the gas in the Galactic disk. HGal cores with sizes from $0.01-0.1$ pc show no notable Larson's relation and the turbulence remains supersonic down to a scale of slightly below $0.1$ pc. None of the HGal cores which bear masses from 0.01-1 $M_{\odot}$ are gravitationally bound and all appear to be confined by outer pressure.

摘要: We present and analyze observations of polarized dust emission at 850 $\mu$m towards the central 1 pc $\times$ 1 pc hub-filament structure of Monoceros R2 (Mon R2). The data are obtained with SCUBA-2/POL-2 on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) as part of the BISTRO (B-fields in Star-forming Region Observations) survey. The orientations of the magnetic field follow the spiral structure of Mon R2, which are well-described by an axisymmetric magnetic field model. We estimate the turbulent component of the magnetic field using the angle difference between our observations and the best-fit model of the underlying large-scale mean magnetic field. This estimate is used to calculate the magnetic field strength using the Davis-Chandrasekhar-Fermi method, for which we also obtain the distribution of volume density and velocity dispersion using a column density map derived from $Herschel$ data and the C$^{18}$O ($J$ = 3-2) data taken with HARP on the JCMT, respectively. We make maps of magnetic field strengths and mass-to-flux ratios, finding that magnetic field strengths vary from 0.02 to 3.64 mG with a mean value of 1.0 $\pm$ 0.06 mG, and the mean critical mass-to-flux ratio is 0.47 $\pm$ 0.02. Additionally, the mean Alfv\'en Mach number is 0.35 $\pm$ 0.01. This suggests that in Mon R2, magnetic fields provide resistance against large-scale gravitational collapse, and magnetic pressure exceeds turbulent pressure. We also investigate the properties of each filament in Mon R2. Most of the filaments are aligned along the magnetic field direction and are magnetically sub-critical.

摘要: We present BISTRO Survey 850 {\mu}m dust emission polarisation observations of the L1495A-B10 region of the Taurus molecular cloud, taken at the JCMT. We observe a roughly triangular network of dense filaments. We detect 9 of the dense starless cores embedded within these filaments in polarisation, finding that the plane-of-sky orientation of the core-scale magnetic field lies roughly perpendicular to the filaments in almost all cases. We also find that the large-scale magnetic field orientation measured by Planck is not correlated with any of the core or filament structures, except in the case of the lowest-density core. We propose a scenario for early prestellar evolution that is both an extension to, and consistent with, previous models, introducing an additional evolutionary transitional stage between field-dominated and matter-dominated evolution, observed here for the first time. In this scenario, the cloud collapses first to a sheet-like structure. Uniquely, we appear to be seeing this sheet almost face-on. The sheet fragments into filaments, which in turn form cores. However, the material must reach a certain critical density before the evolution changes from being field-dominated to being matter-dominated. We measure the sheet surface density and the magnetic field strength at that transition for the first time and show consistency with an analytical prediction that had previously gone untested for over 50 years (Mestel 1965).
