摘要: Corrosion behavior of thermal sprayed Al and Al/nano-Al2O3 composite coatings in artificial seawater in the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria were investigated. A biofilm has been built-up on the coating surfaces following the colonization of the bacteria after 7 days soaking in the solution. The bacteria- related biofilm was used as the simplified model for examining the anti-biocorrosion performances of the marine coatings. The biofilm enhances the corrosion resistance of the Al-based coatings in early stages. Simulated results using equivalent circuit models provide direct electrochemical information about the liquid/surface interfaces, further elucidating the anti-biocorrosion mechanisms of the coatings.

摘要: Titania-hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocomposites were fabricated by wet chemical synthesis approach. HA exhibited crystallographic orientation of nucleation on nano titania particle, forming the composite particles with titania being partially enwrapped with HA. Microstructural characterization by high res- olution transmission electron microscopy revealed coherent interfacial bond of (110) and (222) planes of HA crystal with (101) plane of anatase. The HA layer promoted significantly recruitment of Escherichia coli bacteria onto the titania-based particles for subsequent photocatalytic killing. Less extent of enwrapping of HA on titania particle, as accomplished by increasing the aging time of HA suspension, gave rise to better capability of photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and sterilization of the bacteria. The novel HA-enwrapped titania powder shows great potential for environmental applications.

摘要: A series of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) polymers with different content of itaconic acid (IA) as comonomer were prepared by an efficient aqueous free-radical polymerization technique. The thermal behavior of the PAN polymers was investigated by simultaneous DSC/TG analysis. Effects of IA content, heating rate and atmosphere on the heat release and weight loss behaviors of the PAN polymers were studied for insight of the nature of the thermo-chemical reactions. A specific triple exothermic peak was observed in the DSC curves of P(AN-IA) copolymers in air atmosphere. Three individual exothermic peaks were obtained by peak fitting and assigned to the respective thermo-chemical reactions, namely, ionic cyclization reaction, free-radical cyclization reaction and oxidation reaction. The ionic cyclization reac- tion was significantly influenced by the IA content. The free-radical cyclization reaction was sensitive to heating rate and atmosphere. The cyclization reaction preceded the oxidation reaction and acted as a prerequisite for the oxidation reaction. The improvement of the thermal stability of PAN was mainly attributed to the oxidation reaction through dehydrogenation and formation of oxygen-bearing groups. Mechanisms of the thermo-chemical reactions were also proposed and discussed.
