摘要: Motivated by a recent finding that Fresnel's phenomenological description of the optical activity in the chiral medium is not self-consistent, we conduct a thorough investigation into the nature of the polarization of a plane light wave. We demonstrate that the polarization of light is the reflection of one of its quantum-mechanical properties, called the quasi-spin. Unexpectedly, the quasi-spin is not an observable with respect to the laboratory coordinate system. Instead, it is with respect to the momentum-dependent local coordinate system. The representative operators for the quasi-spin are the Pauli matrices. The wavefunction is the Jones vector. In order to completely determine a state of polarization, two different kinds of degrees of freedom are needed. One is the degrees of freedom to characterize the state of quasi-spin. They are the Stokes parameters, the expectation values of the Pauli matrices in the state described by the Jones vector. The other is the degrees of freedom to specify the local coordinate system, including the propagation direction and an angle of rotation about it. Accordingly, there are two independent mechanisms to change the state of polarization. One is to change the state of quasi-spin in a fixed local coordinate system. This is the traditional mechanism that can be expressed as an SU(2) rotation of the Jones vector. The other is to change the local coordinate system with the state of quasi-spin remaining fixed in it. At last, we show that it is the newly-identified mechanism that accounts for the optical activity.

摘要: It is generally believed that the right-handed circularly polarized (RCP) and left-handed circularly polarized (LCP) waves in an isotropic chiral medium propagate at different velocities, known as circular birefringence. Here we show that this is not the case. After obtaining the refraction and reflection coefficients of any elliptically polarized wave at the surface of a chiral medium, we derive the conditions for single-mode refraction. By means of the process of single-mode refraction, we demonstrate that both the refracted RCP and the refracted LCP waves at normal incidence can be expressed as a coherent superposition of a pair of orthogonal linearly polarized waves that are rotated simultaneously. As a result, they must propagate at the same velocity as the linearly polarized waves. A physical interpretation is also given in detail. In particular, we show that the state of polarization of any elliptically polarized wave in a chiral medium is rotated with propagation. Such a rotation amounts to the rotation of polarization bases without involving the change of the Jones vector. The rotation of the RCP and LCP waves, as special cases of elliptically polarized waves, results in two opposite phases as if they propagated at different phase velocities with their polarization states transmitted unchanged.

摘要: In this paper we study the non-Gaussian features of the primordial fluctuations in loop quan-tum cosmology with the inverse volume corrections. The detailed analysis is performed in the single field slow-roll inflationary models. However, our results reflect the universal characteristics of bispectrum in loop quantum cosmology. The main corrections to the scalar bispectrum come from two aspects: one is the modifications to the standard Bunch-Davies vacuum, the other is the corrections to the background dependent variables, such as slow-roll parameters. Our calculations show that the loop quantum corrections make fNL of the inflationary models increase 0.1%. More-over, we find that two new shapes of non-Gaussian signal arise, which we name F1 and F2. The former gives a unique loop quantum feature which is less correlated with the local, equilateral and single types, while the latter is highly correlated with the local one.

摘要: Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR gamma) is a ligand-activated nuclear receptor and plays an essential role in insulin signaling. Macrophage infiltration into adipose tissue is a character of metabolic inflammation and closely related to insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes. The mechanism by which pro-inflammatory macrophages cause insulin resistance remains to be elucidated. Here we showed that coculture with macrophages significantly suppressed the transcriptional activity of PPAR gamma on its target genes in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and diabetic primary adipocytes, depending on inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). We further showed that PPAR gamma underwent S-nitrosylation in response to nitrosative stress. Mass-spectrometry and site-directed mutagenesis revealed that S-nitrosylation at cysteine 168 was responsible for the impairment of PPAR gamma function. Extended exposure to NO instigated the proteasome-dependent degradation of PPAR gamma. Consistently, in vivo evidence revealed an association of the decreased PPAR gamma protein level with increased macrophage infiltration in visceral adipose tissue (VAT) of obese diabetic db/db mice. Together, our results demonstrated that pro-inflammatory macrophages suppressed PPAR gamma activity in adipocytes via S-nitrosylation, suggesting a novel mechanism linking metabolic inflammation with insulin resistance. 摘要: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is mostly used for position verification during the treatment pro#2;cess. However, severe image artifacts in CBCT hinder its direct use in dose calculation and adaptive radiationtherapy re-planning for proton therapy. In this study, an improved U-Net neural network named CBAM-U-Netwas proposed for CBCT noise reduction in proton therapy, which is a CBCT denoised U-Net network with con#2;volutional block attention modules. The datasets contained 20 groups of head and neck images. The CT imageswere registered to CBCT images as ground truth. The original CBCT denoised U-Net network, sCTU-Net, wastrained for model performance comparison. The synthetic CT(SCT) images generated by CBAM-U-Net and theoriginal sCTU-Net are called CBAM-SCT and U-Net-SCT images, respectively. The HU accuracies of the CT,CBCT, and SCT images were compared using four metrics: mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error(RMSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structure similarity index measure (SSIM). The mean values ofthe MAE, RMSE, PSNR, and SSIM of CBAM-SCT images were 23.80 HU, 64.63 HU, 52.27 dB, and 0.9919,respectively, which were superior to those of the U-Net-SCT images. To evaluate dosimetric accuracy, the rangeaccuracy was compared for a single-energy proton beam. The γ-index pass rates of a 4 cm × 4 cm scannedfield and simple plan were calculated to compare the effects of the noise reduction capabilities of the originalU-Net and CBAM-U-Net on the dose calculation results. CBAM-U-Net reduced noise more effectively thansCTU-Net, particularly in high-density tissues. We proposed a CBAM-U-Net model for CBCT noise reductionin proton therapy. Owing to the excellent noise reduction capabilities of CBAM-U-Net, the proposed modelprovided relatively explicit information regarding patient tissues. Moreover, it can be used in dose calculationand adaptive treatment planning in the future.

摘要: Purpose: The High-Energy X-ray telescope (HE), one of the three main payloads of the \textit{Insight}-HXMT mission, is composed of eighteen NaI(Tl)/CsI(Na) phoswich detectors, where NaI(Tl) serves as the primary detector covering 20--250\,keV, and CsI(Na) is used as an active shield detector to suppress the background of NaI(Tl) and also serves as an all-sky gamma-ray burst monitor covering 0.2--3\,MeV. In this paper, we review the in-orbit performance of HE in the first 5 years since \textit{Insight}-HXMT was launched on June 15, 2017. Methods: The major performances we concern include the gain and energy resolution of NaI(Tl) and CsI(Na) detectors, the performance of pulse-shape-discriminator (PSD) and system dead-time. In this work, we investigate these performances mainly using the data of blank-sky observations and the data when the telescope in earth occultation. Results: The overall performance of HE/NaI(Tl) is very stable in the first 5 years, whereas the gain of HE/CsI(Na) shows a continuously increasing trend and should be calibrated regularly. Conclusion: In general, HE is still in good health and well-calibrated status after five-year's operation. The in-orbit performance of HE has no significant deviation from expectation. HE is expected to be in operation healthily for another several years of extended mission life.

The systematic error in background estimation is investigated for every year. Conclusion: The observational characteristics of the five-year in-orbit background are consistent with our knowledge of the satellite design and the space environment, and the background model is still valid for the latest observations of Insight-HXMT.

摘要: Realtime trigger and localization of bursts are the key functions of GECAM, which is an all-sky gamma-ray monitor launched in Dec 10, 2020. We developed a multifunctional trigger and localization software operating on the CPU of the GECAM electronic box (EBOX). This onboard software has the following features: high trigger efficiency for real celestial bursts with a suppression of false triggers caused by charged particle bursts and background fluctuation, dedicated localization algorithm optimized for short and long bursts respetively, short time latency of the trigger information which is downlinked throught the BeiDou satellite navigation System (BDS). This paper presents the detailed design and deveopment of this trigger and localization software system of GECAM, including the main functions, general design, workflow and algorithms, as well as the verification and demonstration of this software, including the on-ground trigger tests with simulated gamma-ray bursts made by a dedicated X-ray tube and the in-flight performance to real gamma-ray bursts and magnetar bursts.
