Abstract: In order to understand the intellectual bases and academic evolution of international bibliotherapy research, the purpose of the paper is to provide reference for future bibliotherapy research in China. Taking 630 papers included in the Web of Science core collections (SCIE, SSCI, CPCI-S, CPCI-SSH) from 1996 to 2021 as sample data, the CiteSpace visual analysis tool was used to mine and analyze the references co-citation. The research shows that the scholars of important influence in the research field of bibliotherapy includes Gellatly J, McKendree-Smith N L, den Boer P C A M, etc. , who have mainly conducted meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials of bibliotherapy for different types of mental and psychological disorders; in the overall network of references co-citation, the core knowledge group is the clinical treatment effect of bibliotherapy, and the marginal knowledge group is the cognitive behaviour therapy based on the network. With the continuous development and evolution of research, the intellectual base group of bibliotherapy becomes more and more stable. In the process of the evolution of knowledge structure, the research on addictive behaviours has gradually disappeared, while health humanities become an emerging research hot topic.
