Numerical Study of Combining Steady Vortex Generator Jets and Deflected Trailing Edge to Reduce the Blade Numbers of Low Pressure Turbine Stage

This paper presents a new idea to reduce the solidity of low-pressure turbine (LPT) blade cascades, while remain the structural integrity of LPT blade. Aerodynamic performance of a low solidity LPT cascade was improved by increasing blade trailing edge thickness (TET). The solidity of the LPT cascade blade can be reduced by about 12.5% through increasing the TET of the blade without a significant drop in energy efficiency. For the low solidity LPT cascade, increasing the TET can decrease energy loss by 23.30% and increase the flow turning angle by 1.86% for Reynolds number (Re) of 25,000 and freestream turbulence intensities (FSTI) of 2.35%. The flow control mechanism governing behavior around the trailing edge of an LPT cascade is also presented. The results show that appropriate TET is important for the optimal design of high-lift load LPT blade cascades.

This paper deals with the output improvement of heating and cooling cycle by using the work-fluid including phase change material. The experimental study is carried out by heat exchange between work-fluid and heat transfer surface. The work-fluid is flown to a high temperature or a low temperature heat transfer surface from the narrow path. In order to increase the amount of the heat transmission, a trace of Diethylether (boiling point 34.8 degrees C), as a phase change material (PCM), is added to the work-fluid. The parameters of the experiment are additive amount of PCM, the rotational speed of the displacer piston and the temperature of heat transfer surface. It is clarified that the increasing of engine cycle output is brought by the PCM addition. The effect of PCM addition is evaluated by output ratio which is defined from the experimental cycle output data. The requirements for acquiring the increasing effect of output by adding PCM are clarified.

As one of the most important developments in air cooling technology for hot parts of the aero-engine, film cooling technology has been widely used. Film cooling hole structure exists mainly in areas that have high temperature, uneven cooling effectiveness issues when in actual use. The first stage turbine vanes of the aero-engine consume the largest portion of cooling air, thereby the research on reducing the amount of cooling air has the greatest potential. A new stepped slot film cooling vane with a high cooling effectiveness and a high cooling uniformity was researched initially. Through numerical methods, the affecting factors of the cooling effectiveness of a vane with the stepped slot film cooling structure were researched. This paper focuses on the cooling effectiveness and the pressure loss in different blowing ratio conditions, then the most reasonable and scientific structure parameter can be obtained by analyzing the results. The results show that 1.0 mm is the optimum slot width and 10.0 is the most reasonable blowing ratio. Under this condition, the vane achieved the best cooling result and the highest cooling effectiveness, and also retained a low pressure loss.

The supersymmetric QCD corrections to top quark pair production by qq ? anni- hilation in pp ? collisions are calculated in the minimal supersymmetric model. We consider effects of the mixing of the scalar top quarks on the corrections to the total tt ?production cross section at the Fermilab Tevatron. We found that such correction is less sensitive to squark mass and gluino mass than in no-mixing case, and in both cases the corrections can exceed 10% even if we consider the recent CDF limit on squark and gluino masses.
